Ampicillin 25gm
Ampicillin Injectable [25 gm] is a broad-spectrum penicillin antibiotic available for use in cattle of all ages, as well as dogs and cats. Each vial contains 25 grams of ampicillin activity as ampicillin trihydrate, along with preservatives such as methylparaben and propylparaben. Additional components include lecithin, povidone, sodium chloride, and sodium citrate anhydrous.
To prepare the medication, the dry-filled vials should be reconstituted with Sterile Water for Injection, USP, following the instructions on the label. After reconstitution, the solution should be shaken well and will remain stable for up to three months when refrigerated. The color of the solution should be white to pale yellow. It's essential to label the vial with the date of reconstitution and the concentration.
For cattle, including lactating cows and veal calves, the medication is indicated for the treatment of bacterial pneumonia caused by various susceptible bacteria. The recommended dosage is between 2 mg to 5 mg per pound of body weight, administered once daily via intramuscular injection, not exceeding seven days of treatment. Slaughter withhold is 6 days from last treatment; milk withhold is 48 hours from last treatment.
In dogs and cats, the medication is used to treat respiratory tract, urinary tract, gastrointestinal infections, as well as skin, soft tissue, and post-surgical infections. The dosage for dogs and cats is 3 mg per pound of body weight, administered twice daily via subcutaneous or intramuscular injection.
